Mandolin Maestro ....

niall toner band
Last night, Bluegrass and Traditional Country Music Maestro, Marty Stuart, and his Band, The Fabulous Superlatives, came saw and conquered a Dublin audience at the Helix. It terms of pure musical quality, this was probably, by far, the best performance I have seen from anyone. There was an equal share of Honkytonk, Gospel Songs, Drinking Songs, Cheatin' Songs and Bluegrass. Yes pure and solid Bluegrass, with serious elements of Bill Monroe's music, Marty blew the place apart with a blistering set of Monroe-inspired tunes on the Mandolin. I was so enraptured with his absolute mastery of the Mandolin, I almost forgot to take a photo, and the attached was about the best I could manage under the circumstances. It also prooved to be a great occasion to meet with many many friends from all over the Country for this great occasion. Mind you, there were also a lot of 'missing' faces, and the Concert was held in the smaller of the Helix venues. A star of this quality deserves to be playing to much larger audiences, but maybe that's a whole discussion for another day in another format. I'm going to sing off here, because as a student of the Mandolin, I now have to go and do some serious practice ! Oh yeah, the next time 'Uncle Niall' tells you not to miss something, don't miss it !
