niall toner band
There have been times during the past couple of years that I was beginning to believe that my Music World was turning completely on it's head, and that everything in the future was going to be swallowed by technology. Then something comes along which restores my faith in human nature and all things musical. Last Saturday afternoon, my Radio Producer, Aidan Butler, and I made our way to the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin to set up for a series of interviews with some of the performers taking part in the Transatlantic Sessions concert at that beautiful venue[It is truly a stunning venue ! Hats off the Harry Crosbie !] We were set up in a small office on the second floor, and a steady stream of folks came by to chat and play for us, and the results went out on RTE Radio One last night as part of our Roots Freeway series. A good time was had by all, but it was the evening concert that really blew us all away. The entire team put on a wonderful show, but the aspect of the whole thing that really restored me, was the fact that in spite of all the technology in music these days, there was a full house of fans and listeners and CD buyers who were hungry for this real music, and they showed their enthusiasm with rapturous applause all night. Well done to everyone who was involved in the night, and let's hope there will be many more of them ....A restored Niall Toner.
