Hospitality ...

One of the most outstanding features of my recent visit to Kentucky was the wonderful hospitality shown to both myself and my Radio Producer, Aidan Butler. There are so many people I would like to thank, that it would take up space on several blogs to include them all, but I'd like to name-check a few. Jo-Nell Patterson, of Horse Branch, near Rosine, not only provided us with superb accommodation and home-cooked food, but also secured several great interviews for our Bill Monroe Radio Documentary project for RTE Radio One. The results can be heard on RTE Radio One on Thursday the 29th of December at 2pm under the title, Rathgar to Rosine. We experienced great hospitality also from Campbell Mercer and his Family at their home, which is located at the Festival Site on Jerusalem Ridge. Campbell, who is a Vet by profession, and a Monroe fanatic by inclination, also plays Mandolin and organises the Annual Festival in honour of Bill Monroe and his music. This year Campbell also provided his Band, the Cumberland Highlanders,to perform with me on the Main stage. The entire event was televised, and will be shown on RFD TV at a later date. This photo, by Aidan Butler, shows us in the sitting room of Campbell's house, rehearsing for the show. Our sincere thanks to Campbell and Jo-Nell and all who were so welcoming in Kentucky.
